The Beauty of Books

I love books. Though this statement is not new to me, it is a new revelation of times before. You see, I go through phases, as I think we all do, in which there are times when we read more and then there are times when we read less.  This month is one of those when I am reading, or shall I say, devouring more books.  I find often in times such as these that my life is posing many questions or uncertainties, and my soul is on a search for the answers and the one way in which I know to do that is to read and have many satisfying luxurious stacks of books in my living space.  Reading and books have always been a faithful, constant companion of mine for as long as I can remember.  There is something so comforting about settling in and getting comfortable with a hot cup of tea and losing yourself in the writer's world.  Our problems float away on a sea of words and suddenly its as if we are in a different world.  To me that is relaxation at its best.  So, what are some of your favorite books?

Favorite books include Pride and Prejudice and The History of Love. :) I love books as well, sometimes I feel I can lose myself in them. There's something beautiful about that feeling.

thanks for sharing.

It is strange how those periods of book drought coincide with periods of creativity for me. If I read, I cannot write and vice versa. It is as if there would be too many worlds trying to co-exist, and my mind just don't want to handle it.

I love reading; I spend most of my time every day reading; but when you ask about favorite books, it gets difficult: I can't pick one out and say: "this is it." I like every book for some reason; even if I were to recommend some books I would not be able to make a list that seems fair and satisfactory to me. Besides fiction I also like theory and philosophy, which is a different way of cutting the vague mass of the world.

I just read Cormac McCarthy's "Suttree". It is the best writing I have ever experienced. You will laugh, cry and think about his wonderful insights of his early life. Also read "A Death in the Family" by James Agee---won a pulitzer for that one. Thanks for your thoughts!

Do you use the web site called "Library Thing". It is a great way to record one's own holdings, see who shares yur collection and to join in groups with people who have similar interests to you.

I have nearly 200 books listed there, although we own far more. We went to Eastbourne last week (its a town on the South Coast of England - I'm not sure where you are but apologies if you knew this) and we found a fantastic secondhand atiquarian book shop called .

Google this and see the shelving right up to the ceiling.

I love books and reading, love the randomness of learning new stuff, am reading Bill Bryson's latest book called At Home and also The secret life of bees for my reading group.

I know exactly what you mean! I'm still a teenager, so my friends think its a bit weird that I'm such a book freak. I find nothing better than being able to slip into another world for a few hours. I have too many favorite book like The Great Gatsby, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Secret Life of Bees, and Warriors Don't Cry. Do you have any books you'd recommend to me?
